George Washington, Emmy Award-Winning Television Producer, Dies at 47

CHICAGO, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- George Washington, an Emmy award-winning television producer and entertainment executive, died unexpectedly on Dec. 29, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was 47-years-old.

Homecoming services will be on Thursday, January 3 at Trinity United Church of Christ. The family hour will be held from 3:00-4:00 p.m., and the funeral will immediately follow.

Prior to his death, Washington was vice president of operations for Ramsey Lewis Productions, a position he held since 2004. Considered among the elite in his field, Washington had a celebrated career in the television production industry. For more than 20 years, his expert vision guided a number of national broadcast programs and local Chicago television shows. His credits include: Judge Mathis (Tele-Pictures/Time-Warner, Inc.), The Gordon Elliott Show (CBS Entertainment), The Jerry Springer Show (Universal Studios) and Sunday! with Steve Baskerville (CBS Chicago).

In addition to his career in syndicated television, Washington also successfully produced documentaries for national and Chicagoland audiences. His thought-provoking and highly engaging depictions garnered critical acclaim and industry honors; Washington was the recipient of the 1998 New York Film Critic Award for "Best Educational Documentary," and he also received two consecutive (1996 and 1997) Chicago Midwest Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Informational Series."

He complemented his production acumen by serving as a talent coordinator on several live television special event productions, including the 1994 Tony Awards, the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Gala & Inauguration and The Democratic National Convention.

Washington is survived by his partner, Lamar Anderson; his beloved parents, James and Elizabeth Francis Washington; his devoted sister, Shirley Gray; his loving brothers, Dr. Kenneth (Cynthia) Stone and James (Gussie) Lincoln; nieces Jaime Lincoln, Jaren Lincoln, Kerry (Timothy) Holloway, and Alana Graham; nephews James Lincoln III, Keith Stone and Barrington Cole Lincoln; and a host of friends and loved ones.
