WEGENER Receives $1.4 Million in Orders for New Enterprise Media Receiver

WEGENER's new Unity 552 Enterprise Receiver Supports MPEG-4/h.264 Decoding for SD and HD, DVB-S2 Demodulation, and integrated COMPEL(R) control

DULUTH, Ga., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced receiving orders totaling over $1.4 million from one of its largest customers for the new Unity 552 Enterprise Media Receiver. The Unity 552 has bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4/h.264 video coding for both standard definition and high definition video, digital and analog outputs, as well as advanced DVB-S2 demodulation. The orders are expected to be the first of a series of orders from the customer for a complete network upgrade to the Unity 552.

"WEGENER designed the Unity 552 to address the needs of the private enterprise market and it has been obtaining great reviews from its field trials," stated Ned L. Mountain, President and COO of WEGENER. "With the Unity 552, new and existing enterprise networks can explore opportunities to transition live video broadcasts from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4/h.264 video compression and upgrade to high definition video. With Compel Control(R) as a standard feature of the product, the Unity 552 responds instantly to remote commands, encryption changes and seamlessly integrates into existing Compel networks."

Network operators can achieve 40-70% greater signal compression using MPEG-4/h.264 video compression and DVB-S2 modulation compared with the current standard MPEG-2 video compression and DVB-S satellite modulation. These new technologies, when integrated with WEGENER's COMPEL network control system, allow enterprise networks considerably lower operational costs.
