Washington, DC Stars in National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Movie Sparks New Real-Life Adventure Tour Throughout the Capital City
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ben Gates' quest for treasure brings him back to DC this Friday, December 21, in Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the action-packed follow-up to the high-octane 2004 release, again produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Jon Turteltaub. Much of the story unfolds in the nation's capital, and the Washington, DC Convention & Tourism Corporation (WCTC) has created a new promotion to celebrate the city's starring role. As history buffs and movie lovers follow "Trails to Treasure," a self-guided tour developed by WCTC to highlight the sites featured in the film, they'll also have the chance to uncover a few of DC's hidden secrets, book themed getaway packages, and enter to win some "treasure" of their own.
In National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Justin Bartha reprise their roles as history-savvy treasure hunters who set out to uncover the truth behind the Lincoln assassination. Joined on this new adventure by Academy Award(R)-winning actress Helen Mirren and four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris, their quest takes them to intriguing locations like the Library of Congress, the White House, the University of Maryland and George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens and links DC to other great capitals of the world. The DC area locations are captured on a custom website, trailstotreasure.com, and in a printed brochure produced in partnership with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro). The brochure follows the spirit of the adventure, offering travelers the chance to solve a series of historical clues for a chance to win a trip for two to the nation's capital.
"Working with Disney to connect our destination to a high-profile film like National Treasure: Book of Secrets puts DC in front of its core audience -- history lovers and family travelers -- and in an exciting way," said William A. Hanbury, president and CEO, WCTC. "The film shows how history truly comes alive in the nation's capital."
At trailstotreasure.com, visitors will soon be able to download a video podcast starring Jay Bulger, a DC native, actor, director and former Armani model. The multi-episode podcast takes a humorous, entertaining yet informative in-depth look at the sites featured in the film.
Visitors looking for a treasure-inspired getaway can also book special National Treasure-themed getaway packages at more than a dozen DC-area hotels, with rates starting at just $109 per night. The Fairmont Washington, D.C. Hotel's movie-themed weekend package comes with a diary for recording secrets and two Tourmobile tickets, starting at $259 per night.
