Some Retailers Missing Sales Opportunities This Holiday Season, Some Turning Holiday Shoppers Into Long-Term Fans, Says Deloitte Survey

The holiday season is a key time to attract new customers, according to a new survey conducted by Deloitte, but many retailers may be falling short in this critical "audition."

While many retailers make a large percentage of their annual sales during the holiday season, they also lose many sales opportunities due to poor execution and planning. According to Deloitte's survey, so far this holiday season 89 percent of shoppers have left a store, or a department in a store, without purchasing anything, most frequently because the store did not have an item they wanted to purchase, they couldn't find the item they were looking for, or the specific item or size they were looking for was out of stock.

'Who Cares?' - Americans Ask in New National Poll on Celebrity Political Views

A new national poll conducted by the Sacred Heart University Polling Institute finds large majorities of Americans, 80 percent, pay no or very little attention to celebrities when they make political or public policy statements. This is down slightly from the results of a 2003 Sacred Heart Poll.

Three-fifths of Americans surveyed would rather see celebrities leave public policy-making to the experts and the voters. This is down somewhat from the 2003 Poll. Another 31 percent suggested celebrities should publicly voice their political views. This is up somewhat from 27 percent in a 2003 Sacred Heart Poll.

Most Americans did agree there was too much coverage of celebrities.

According to recent polls on Scholastic.com, kids and parents overwhelming selected the Democratic party choices: Senator Barack Obama for kids and Senator Hillary Clinton for parents. All Post Offices Open Christmas Eve, Many Closing Early

The U-S Postal Service says all Post Offices will be open Christmas Eve, but many will shorten retail lobby hours to enable retail employees to spend more time with their families. Regular mail delivery for December 24th will be unaffected by the change.

Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office. To obtain the phone number of a specific Post Office, customers may call 1-800-ASK-USPS. Commercial customers are asked to check with their Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit for Christmas Eve 24 hours of operation.

Noon will be the last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes for December 24th processing.

Post Offices will be closed December 25th. Express Mail will be delivered Christmas Day and regular mail delivery will resume December 26th.
