ATLANTA, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Storm Stories, the popular signature program on The Weather Channel, will be available on DVD for the first time with a collector's edition of five DVDs hitting retail stores December 13. The "Storm Stories" tin also includes a sixth DVD, a bonus HD feature of the Epic Conditions action hit. The collection, in stores in time for Christmas buying, is being distributed by licensee Madacy Entertainment LP.
The Storm Stories DVD set, TWC's first offering for the home entertainment market, will be sold at Best Buy and will also be available online at store.weather.com.
Having built a strong following since its launch four years ago, Storm Stories shows the true stories of survivors and rescuers who have been threatened by nature's most powerful forces. From stories about mile-wide tornadoes and killer hurricanes to blinding blizzards and mudslides, this collection of 25 Storm Stories episodes is an incredible testimony to the power of nature and the fortitude of man.
The collection will include a bonus feature of Epic Conditions, filmed in native HD and made exclusively for The Weather Channel by Warren Miller Productions, known for its highly-acclaimed sports action video techniques. The programs were shot in High Definition so that they can be played by consumers with HD DVD players as well as on conventional DVD players.
"Following the phenomenal popularity of our recently-released CD of music from The Weather Channel and other strategic ventures to extend our brand, we are making certain our success continues as we enter the DVD market. We are proud to offer some of our best programming -- this amazing collection of Storm Stories and a bonus HD version of Epic Conditions," said Shari Pace, vice president of licensing, The Weather Channel.
"We are pleased to be working with The Weather Channel in bringing popular programming from The Weather Channel to the retail market," said Harris Sterling, executive vice president, Madacy Entertainment LP.
The Storm Stories DVD also includes candid comments from an interview with veteran Storm Tracker Jim Cantore and a booklet about the team of on-camera meteorologists at The Weather Channel who go into the field to provide on-the-scene coverage during the most intense of weather events.
