NBC Movie Executive Stephen Bulka Named Vice President, Original Movies, Lifetime Networks
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Lifetime Networks has named Stephen Bulka as Vice President, Original Movies, it was announced today by Tanya Lopez, Senior Vice President, Original Movies, Lifetime Networks, to whom Bulka will report. His appointment is effective immediately.
In his new role, Bulka, based in Los Angeles, will be responsible for the development of Lifetime Original Movies as well as movies for Lifetime Movie Network (LMN). Lifetime's extensive movie slate for 2008 includes: "Queen Sized" starring "Hairspray's" Nikki Blonsky airing January 12; "Racing for Time" starring Charles S. Dutton airing February 16; "Wisegal" starring Alyssa Milano, James Caan and Jason Gedrick; "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" starring Dermot Mulroney, Emily Watson and Gretchen Mol; "The Tenth Circle" starring Kelly Preston and Ron Eldard and "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet" starring music sensation Joanna "JoJo" Levesque and Valerie Bertinelli. Lifetime Original Movies are #1 in ad supported cable original movies in 2007.
On Lifetime Movie Network, the #2 women's network, the first-ever original 4-hour miniseries, "The Capture of the Green River Killer" starring Tom Cavanagh, Amy Davidson, Sharon Lawrence, James Russo and James Marsters will premiere in first quarter 2008.
In making the announcement, Lopez said, "Stephen's wide-ranging experience in the television movie arena and his broad knowledge of the industry's producers make him ideal for this position." Adding, "I'm thrilled to have Stephen on board as we continue to build on our solid slate of movies for '08 and beyond."
For the past seven years, Bulka served as Vice President of Movies and Miniseries at NBC Entertainment. At NBC, he oversaw the development and production of such television movies as "Martha Inc: The Story of Martha Stewart" and the Emmy(R) Award-winning musical production of "A Christmas Carol." He also launched the highly successful franchise of "Behind the Camera" movies, including "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Three's Company.'" Prior to NBC, Bulka worked as a literary agent at William Morris, where he represented literary properties in both film and television and was involved with such high-profile authors as Dean Koontz, Erich Segal and Mary Higgins Clark. Other positions include Vice President of Development at Nickelodeon Movies, the feature arm of Nickelodeon. There, he oversaw the company's first slate of movie projects, including "The Rugrats Movie," "Harriet the Spy" and "Snow Day." He also served as Director of Development at Paramount Pictures, where he helped develop such films as "The Firm" and "Addams Family Values."
Bulka is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCLA and also earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.
