Nearly One in Five Americans Say They Can't Afford Needed Health Care

Nearly one in five U-S adults -- more than 40 million people -- report they do not have adequate access to the health care they need. This is according to the annual report on the nation's health released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The report, "Health, United States, 2007," is a compilation of more than one hundred fifty health tables prepared by C-D-C's National Center for Health Statistics. The report also contains a special section focusing on access to care, which shows that nearly 20 percent of adults reported that they needed and did not receive one or more of these services in the past year -- medical care, prescription medicines, mental health care, dental care, or eyeglasses -- because they could not afford them.

The Office Holiday Party: A Victim of the Generational Gap?

According to the latest Spherion Workplace Snapshot survey conducted by Harris Interactive, 72 percent of adult workers age 50 plus say it is not important to them that their employer has an annual holiday party, compared to 56 percent of workers age 18 to 29 and 62 percent of workers overall. The survey also finds that fewer employers hold any type of annual holiday party, decreasing from 58 percent in 2006 to 55 percent in 2007.

35% of U.S. Tweens Own a Mobile Phone, According to Nielsen

The Nielsen Company has released the findings of an in-depth study on the mobile media and cross media behavior of U-S "tweens" (ages 8-12). The report estimates that 35 percent of tweens own a mobile phone, 20 percent of tweens have used text messaging, and 21percent of tweens have used ring & answer tones. While text-messaging and ringtones remain the most pervasive non-voice functions on the phone, other content such as downloaded wallpapers, music, games and Internet access also rank highly among tweens.
