KTSF, America's Largest Asian Language Broadcaster, Sees Substantial Rise in Nielsen Primetime Ratings

KTSF, America's Largest Asian Language Broadcaster, Sees Substantial Rise in Nielsen Primetime Ratings

In-language, multicultural TV programming resonates with diverse U.S. audience

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- As networks around the country battle for primetime viewers, KTSF Television, the nation's largest Asian language broadcaster, announced today that Nielsen Media Research ratings show a significant increase in viewing households during the first three quarters of 2007 over the same period last year.

KTSF audience numbers, based on Nielsen Local People Meter (LPM) data in the San Francisco Bay Area, reveal that viewers are consuming Asian programming at a rapid pace. Highlights of KTSF's Q1 to Q3 2007 ratings increase include:

-- Average number of households that tuned in to watch primetime dramas
(8PM-10PM , Mon-Fri) increased 30% over the same period last year
-- Average number of households during primetime programs (7PM-11PM,
Mon-Fri) increased 18% over the same period last year
-- Average number of adult female 18+ viewers during primetime dramas
(8PM-10PM, Mon-Fri) increased 19% over the same period last year

The latest Nielsen data confirms that primetime KTSF programs strongly resonate with both advertisers and viewers, especially the key adult female demographic. Reflective of an increasingly diverse American population, KTSF has outperformed some mainstream and Hispanic stations with its popular weekday primetime dramas and news programs.

The Greater San Francisco Bay Area today is home to over 1.4 million Asian-Americans (Census 2006). Encouraged by a growing consumer market that demands the best in Asian-language programming, KTSF is the only U.S. television station to broadcast nightly, live news programming in Cantonese and Mandarin.

In 2005, KTSF became the first and only Asian media outlet to offer Nielsen viewership data. Since then, the station remains a strong advocate of market research to track the television-viewing habits of the Asian community. The data also offers insights on effectively communicating with Asian-American consumers, a fast-growing market segment.

"KTSF has emerged as the clear market leader in Asian-language TV programming," said Michael Sherman, General Manager, KTSF. "During our highly-rated primetime Chinese-language news, dramas and entertainment programs, KTSF routinely ranks in the top 5 stations out of the 24 broadcasters in the market. Our phenomenal hike in viewership reflects the immense potential and rising credibility of in-language media outlets."

In addition to Chinese, KTSF's programming includes Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Asian Indian, Persian, Greek and Laotian. The station also produces the award-winning current affairs series "Under the Same Sky" focused on key socio-economic topics that impact the global Chinese community.
