I Am Legend Opens Strong With Most IMAX(R) Shows Selling Out

Domestic IMAX Release Grosses $3.2 Million on 77 IMAX Screens

Film Marks Largest December Opening in Motion Picture, IMAX History

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that I Am Legend opened strongly, with most shows sold out at IMAX(R) theatres during its debut weekend, contributing $3.2 million of the record-breaking $77.4 million that the film grossed at the domestic box office, from December 14 through Sunday, December 16. The picture opened on 77 domestic IMAX screens, posting a per screen average of $41,936. I Am Legend also opened on 6 international IMAX screens, bringing the worldwide IMAX estimated total to $3.4 million.

Included in the film's debut weekend, were the highly successful openings of two new IMAX theatres at Regal Cinemas multiplexes. In Knoxville, TN, the Regal Cinemas Pinnacle Stadium 18 sold out the entire weekend, reporting more than $77,000 in gross box office receipts from the single IMAX screen. In Las Vegas, NV, the Regal Red Rock Stadium 16 reported $44,000 from its new IMAX screen.
