"We salute the Pittsburgh Jazz Society for its 20 years of leadership as an enduring force and voice for jazz in our region. With an all-volunteer staff and limited resources, the tireless efforts of the PJS membership have made Pittsburgh synonymous with great jazz," said Rose Gabbianelli, executive vice president and global director of Public Affairs for The Bank of New York Mellon.

"Our goal has been to bring jazz lovers together to enjoy established artists and also introduce young musicians to our rich traditions," said John Mowod, PJS president. "As a volunteer and someone who personally appreciates Pittsburgh's jazz heritage and on behalf of our entire organization, I want to express our sincere thanks to The Bank of New York Mellon for this honor."

The Manchester Craftsmen's Guild received last year's Mellon Jazz Community Award, and previous recipients have included the late Walt Harper, Tony Mowod, Joe Negri, the African American Jazz Preservation Society of Pittsburgh, the Afro-American Music Institute, WDUQ-FM, Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music and the University of Pittsburgh's Annual Jazz Seminar and Concert.
