Larry King to Appear On Chabad 'To Life' Telethon

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With production for the 2007 Chabad "To Life" Telethon now in full swing, Chabad today announced that noted journalist and broadcaster Larry King is joining the list of in- studio guests.

"I'm looking forward to dancing with Rabbi Cunin and Jon Voight," quipped King about his upcoming appearance on the broadcast. Chabad's annual fundraising event airs live from Hollywood on Sunday, September 9, from 4:00 to 10:00 pm, PDT.

Larry King is seen nightly by millions of viewers around the world as the host of CNN's "Larry King Live," which is one of the longest running talk shows on television. With the theme of "People Helping People," this year's Telethon will highlight the ways that the people of Chabad reach out to aid the needy through grassroots services. Other guests scheduled to show their support of the group's nonsectarian work include actor Elliott Gould, actress/singer Mare Winningham, comedian Shelley Berman, and radio commentator Dennis Prager.

Actor and comedian Elon Gold will host the program, and will be joined by a variety of entertainers, including stand-up comedians Mark Schiff and Jeffrey Ross, as co-hosts. The broadcast will also feature live performances by some of the top acts in contemporary Jewish music, such as Mordechai Ben David, Gad Elbaz, Avraham Fried, and The Yeshiva Boys Choir. The Telethon will also include a performance by Ethan Bortnick, the 6 year-old piano prodigy whose skills have recently won national media attention.

The Chairpersons of the Chabad "To Life" Telethon are film producer Jerry Weintraub and attorney Marshall B. Grossman, both longtime friends and supporters of the organization. During the program, architect Robert Kite will receive the Lamplighter Humanitarian Award for his dedication to helping the children at Chabad's Running Springs campus.

Chabad, a community-based nonprofit organization whose efforts are rooted in traditional Jewish values, offers many programs to help the needy regardless of background or belief. Chabad runs the largest network of educational and nonsectarian social services under Jewish auspices on the West Coast. Last year's Telethon generated more than $6 million for these charitable programs.
