Turning Internet Video Voyeurs into Broadcasters and Auteurs

Turning Internet Video Voyeurs into Broadcasters and Auteurs

LOS ANGELES, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study by Internet research company, Hitwise, found that nearly 100 percent of visits to YouTube are for watching video. Less than one percent of the visits are for the specific purpose of contributing content.

"We believe that all types of people, even really introverted people, are encouraged to create content and become auteurs when they are given tools that are easy, fast, and free," says Martin Wade, CEO of Broadcaster, Inc., a new online entertainment community that empowers its users by offering a suite of tools that can be described as essentially a "downloadable TV studio." All of these tools are available on the site and can be downloaded to a PC in just a few minutes.

Broadcaster offers iGrab, a free search tool that quickly provides downloadable videos and images to keep, use, or mix with original content to create your own personal video broadcasts.

"This software is designed to act like a TiVo for the Internet," says Wade. "It comes with its own media player that allows the user to view stored content without having to wait for other programs to load." iGrab also comes with a parental lock feature to keep minors from viewing adult content.

The StudioPRO tool can capture any video that is playing on the screen, including live streaming video and pre-recorded video clips playing on any media player. StudioPRO then lets the user record and save from those sources in a variety of file formats and compression qualities.

Today, people can only use their webcams with a single chat program or service at one time. In the future, StudioPRO will let users split their webcam output to multiple services and chat programs simultaneously in real time. Users will be able to video chat on services such as Yahoo! Messenger and MSN messenger at the same time using one camera.

By uniquely giving its members free tools, Wade believes Broadcaster has set itself apart from the hundreds of other video sharing sites on the Internet today. Their community of broadcasters and auteurs has grown to over 30 million monthly unique visitors in less than six months, and is ranked ninth in site membership worldwide by UK's Computeractive magazine.
