Plain White Ts and Secondhand Serenade to Headline mtvU Summer Concert Series at Six Flags
NEW YORK, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Six Flags, the world's leading regional theme park company, and mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, are joining forces this summer to bring two of the hottest up-and-coming acts on the college music scene to Six Flags parks nationwide, as part of the 2007 mtvU Summer Concert Series at Six Flags. Six Flags is home to thrilling rides and fantastic entertainment, and mtvU is the definitive network for the emerging music simmering on college campuses -- the combination of these two promises to create a one-of-a-kind, compelling concert series that college students and new music fans from coast to coast will want to see.
The headlining bands for the inaugural series will be the Plain White Ts and Secondhand Serenade. Plain White Ts have been perfecting their distinctive brand of pop-punk for several years, playing to sold out crowds on major tours and opening for giants like Jimmy Eat World and AFI. The band recently broke onto the national scene with the smash hit, "Hey There Delilah," and a win in the "Breaking Woodie" (Best Emerging Artist) category at the 2006 mtvU Woodie Awards -- the only awards honoring the music voted best by the college audience.
Secondhand Serenade, a.k.a. singer-songwriter John Vesely, is another rapidly-rising act set to take the Six Flags concert stage. Fueled by rabid fan backing, the one man band catapulted from obscurity to the #1 unsigned act on MySpace, heavy rotation on mtvU and major exposure on MTV. Secondhand's current hit single, "Vulnerable," has climbed the college, pop and digital charts and was one of the top streamed music videos on mtvU.com this past semester.
The mtvU Summer Concert Series at Six Flags will be featured at the following parks this July and August:
7/27 Six Flags New England -- Agawam, Mass
7/29 Six Flags Great Adventure -- Jackson, NJ
8/3 Six Flags St. Louis
8/10 Six Flags Over Georgia -- Austell, GA
8/17 Six Flags Great America -- Gurnee, IL
As an added bonus, each park will also showcase one of the area's best local college acts. Right now mtvU is hosting a "Battle of the Bands" competition on "Best Music on Campus," an online college music destination offering students unparalleled opportunities to launch their careers, and later this month, five winners will be selected to open one date each.
