BAC Films Supports HD VMD in France!

LONDON, June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- New Medium Enterprises (NME) (BULLETIN BOARD: NMEN) recently announced an agreement with highly acclaimed BAC Films!

The deal ensures that NME, a US firm, can now offer film titles on the HD VMD (High Definition Versatile Multilayer Disc) format in the 4th quarter 2007. Films to be released as part of NME's expanding list of catalogue titles include Pulp Fiction, Le Caiman, Planete Blanche, Malena, Sailor & Lula plus more.

Through electronics distributor, MCA Technology, a special edition bundle box will be available as part of the HD VMD launch which includes: a HD VMD multilayer player and 5 HD VMD films including a catalogue of more available titles for 299 Euros R.R.P.

Established for the last 20 years and with a library of 400 films distributed to movie theatres, BAC Films has become a major player in the French cinematographic industry specializing in 4 main business areas; theatre distribution, home video distribution, television and international sales.

BAC Films previously nominated at the world renown Cannes Film Festival include, Le Pianist by Roman Polanski, La Chambre du Fils by Nanni Morretti, Barton Fink by the Cohen Brothers, Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino and Sailor et Lula by David Lynch.

Olivier Philippon of BAC Films comments, "BAC Films is very happy to partner with NME on the next generation High Definition optical format for 2 main reasons. Firstly, it has an advantage over the other two competing formats, an established and proven technology that is backward compatible with current DVD and more importantly a less costly application than other formats. Finally the end consumer will have access to BAC Films in high definition at affordable prices."

Mahesh Jayanarayan is pleased to have been able to seal this agreement for the French territory. He says, "We are happy to welcome a new supporter of HD VMD, BAC Films. We are proud and honored that a leader such as BAC Films has put its trust in us."

During the event of The Cannes Film Festival, more business relationships have been forged. There shall be more partnership agreements to be announced in the near future with French, European as well as International film distributors. Furthermore, NME is pursuing relationships with French optical disc replicators.

What you should know about HD VMD

HD VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) is NME's proprietary High Definition disc format based upon established red laser technology enabling seamless and cost effective manufacturing solutions for High Definition products based on existing DVD industrial infrastructure.

NME's patented 2P process succeeded in solving the technological problems which have limited DVD's to two information layers (DVD9). Thus, multilayering is now possible with HD VMD's commercial solution of 20 GB storage capacity for single sided discs (i.e. 4 layers of 5 GB each). HD VMD has also proven to achieve 24, 30, 40 and 48 GB capacity with the NME 2P process method. The NME 2P process is also applicable for manufacturing multilayer blue laser discs.

The HD VMD (disc) has a capacity to playback a full three hours of true 1080p High Definition material on one single side. The HD VMD (player) is also backward compatible and supports all existing DVD discs formats and CD, in addition to allowing consumers to play their existing standard-definition DVD collections up-converted to HD.

HD VMD is currently being adopted by content providers and distributors in 12 regions worldwide, including Brazil, Central Europe, China, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Scandinavia, Middle East, Russia and the United States.

HD VMD prices are very close to DVD current pricing and costs and is considered a serious challenger as it provides access to High Definition at a much lower cost than Blu-ray and HD-DVD drives and discs.
