The All-Star L.A. Blues Alliance to Release Their Debut Album What A Life on June 26 Through Babyree Recordings/Fontana-Universal Distribution
ASSEMBLED BY LEGENDARY TV COMPOSER MIKE POST, THE GROUP'S SMOKIN' LINE-UP FEATURES KEB' MO', SONNY LANDRETH, STANLEY BEHRENS, MIKE FINNIGAN, BOB GLAUB, AMY KEYS, DAVID MORGAN, JOHN 'JR' ROBINSON & W.G. SNUFFY WALDEN
LOS ANGELES, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Star-studded, rockin' blues outfit L.A. Blues Alliance was first assembled in 2006 by Emmy/5X GRAMMY-winning producer/musician/composer Mike Post. One of the most lauded composers in TV history (and one of the only people ever to have a Who song named for him, the "Mike Post Theme"), Post has had a lifelong love of the blues that he wanted to serve with a dream project. In the storied tradition of top blues musicians jamming purely for the fun of it, he invited nine stellar friends to convene for just such a summit. Some had collaborated before, others knew each other only by reputation, but all signed on for Post's musical mission.
L.A. Blues Alliance's forthcoming debut album What A Life realizes Post's idea of cutting an album entirely live in the studio, with each group member bringing two song ideas to the sessions, originals and blues classics alike. The nine-person collective ripped through fifteen tracks in just over a week, and the spontaneous energy and creative flow they shared is palpable on the Post-produced What A Life, also the title of the disc's Mike Finnigan-penned powerhouse opener. It's set for release June 26 on BabyRee Recordings with distribution through Fontana/Universal.
The complete line-up for L.A. Blues Alliance's world class team of venerable players -- who take turns on vocal duties -- is: 3X GRAMMY winner Keb' Mo' (guitars, mandolin), Louisiana-based slide guitar master Sonny Landreth (guitars), ex-Canned Heat frontman Stanley Behrens (harmonica, tenor sax), Mike Finnigan (Hammond B3 organ, piano), ace of bass Bob Glaub (bass, percussion), Amy Keys (vocals), David Morgan (piano, electric piano), GRAMMY winner John "JR" Robinson (drums, percussion) and Emmy winner W.G. Snuffy Walden (guitars).
In addition to the title track, What A Life boasts stand-outs including Sonny Landreth on "Illinois Blues," Keb' Mo' on "T.V. Mama," "Money Honey" and "Shop Around" (the latter two duets with Amy Keys) and Stanley Behrens on "Who's Talking." Highlights also include Finnigan and Keys reinventing Johnny Cash's "Walk The Line," Keys' pull-out-the-stops version of Stevie Wonder's "Maybe Your Baby" and the original "Like I Do," co-composed by Post and Morgan.
Post, an L.A. native whose vast TV credits include multiple Law & Orders, L.A. Law, NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues, commented, "I live and breathe one-hour episodic television, and I love it, but I saw L.A. Blues Alliance as a chance to go back to live performance, to where I started." His career began in the mid-'60s as a session ace, with early credits including playing guitar on Sonny & Cher's #1 hit "I Got You Babe" and winning his first GRAMMY at age 22 for producing the Mason Williams smash "Classical Gas." He's worked with legends including Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, and has said of his passion for the blues that, "I was a middle class kid from the Valley looking for a dusty road to walk down." With the Alliance, he finds that path and revels in its every turn, as everyone lucky enough to have seen the group's sold-out debut concert last April at House Of Blues Sunset Strip already knows. What A Life indeed!
