SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon's Shredderman Rules!, an action-packed original TV movie comedy starring Devon Werkheiser (Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide) as visionary nerd turned cyber-hero Nolan Byrd (a.k.a. Shredderman), will premiere Saturday, June 9 (8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT; repeats June 10, 7 p.m.). Adapted from the best-selling book Shredderman: Secret Identity by Wendelin Van Draanen, it chronicles put-upon Nolan's exploits as he sets out to avenge father-and-son bullies via his shredderman.com website, where truth and justice prevail - and bullies get what's coming to them.
The comic adventure, followed by a behind-the-scenes special at 9:30 p.m., caps off "Ned Shred Weekend" on Nickelodeon, which also features a special Ned's Declassified TV movie "Survival Guide to Field Trips, Permission Slips, Signs and Weasels" on Friday, June 8 (8-9 p.m. ET/PT).
Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live), Daniel Roebuck (Lost), Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers 1-3's, Frau Farbissina), Dave Coulier (Full House), Francia Almendarez (Bring It on: All or Nothing), Andrew Caldwell, Kendre Berry (Six Feet Under, Ned's Declassified) and Curtis Armstrong (Akeelah and the Bee, Revenge of the Nerds) co-star in Shredderman Rules!
"We're thrilled to showcase Devon Werkheiser's talent," said executive producer Marjorie Cohn, who is also Nickelodeon's Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming. "Nolan Byrd's ingenious problem-solving taps into how kids are using technology today. While Nolan's not the coolest kid in the room, he shows kids that that's okay, and you can be your own hero. He's completely relatable, and his newfound initiative also makes him an inspiration."
Motivated by an assignment from his cool teacher/confidant Mr. Green (Meadows) -- who asks, "Is there something you feel angry about? An injustice you see in the world?" -- 14-year-old Nolan springs into action creating his electronic alter ego and secret identity, Shredderman. His aim: to expose Bubba Bixby (Caldwell), the unstoppable terror of Cedar Valley Middle School and the bane of his existence - and to quash plumbing kingpin Mr. Bixby's (Roebuck) scheme to turn the town's beloved pond into a sewage plant.
Armed with a carefully concealed digital camera, Nolan captures evidence and builds an eye-opening, top-secret website that rouses his classmates. The grassroots reaction is huge; Shredderman is the talk of the school, and Nolan gains enormous confidence. Still, it's no walk in the pond park, especially with romance blazing between Principal Voss (Sterling) and Mr. Bixby. Ultimately good triumphs over evil in a huge King Kong parody, when Mr. Bixby crashes to his humiliating end; Shredderman saves the day and Nolan even asks out his longtime crush Isabel (Almendarez). Coulier co-stars as Nolan's supportive, albeit milquetoast dad. Berry is Max, his childhood friend turned Bubba henchman turned friend again. And Armstrong is Mayor Izzo.
Shredderman Rules! is a Nickelodeon production in association with Dolphin Entertainment and Wild Rice Productions. Joel Rice (About Sarah, I Want to Marry Ryan Banks) and Lauren Levine (I Am David, Bridge to Terabithia) serve as executive producers with Cohn, Bill O'Dowd, Michael Espensen and Barry Tropp. Savage Steve Holland (Zoey 101, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Unfabulous) directs a teleplay by Russell Marcus (Full House, The Golden Girls).
