The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Travel Michigan have partnered with Digital 10 Network to present the Explore Channel, which provides engaging, full-motion and stereo sound messages to travelers visiting any of the 14 Welcome Centers throughout the state. The statewide digital media channel, available for viewing by all Welcome Center visitors, offers informative programs at each location. There is no cost to Michigan taxpayers for the installation, operation or maintenance of the Welcome Center media channel.

The MDOT and Digital 10 Network contract is a successful collaboration between business and government and will offer a boost of creativity and technology to the ongoing effort of increasing tourism in Michigan. The Explore Channel not only presents travelers with entertaining and informative programs while inside the Welcome Centers, but also enables businesses to reach tourists in a travel-specific environment. In addition to tourism messages, the digital media channel will display weather and motorist safety information.

"We are pleased to offer an additional service to the state's motorists and visitors at no extra cost to taxpayers. This is all part of Governor Granholm's commitment to make state government as efficient as possible while maximizing service to Michigan citizens," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle.

"Travel Michigan believes that this is a great advertising opportunity for any business or organization that is part of the Michigan tourism industry," stated George Zimmermann, Vice President, Travel Michigan, Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Last year, visitors spent $17.5 billion, generating $971 million in state taxes, and accounting for 193,000 jobs statewide, making tourism a vital industry in Michigan.

The statewide digital media channel is the second of its kind in the United States in government retail offices; the first being the Digital 10 Network and State of Michigan partnership that presents the InSight Channel, seen throughout 108 Secretary of State branch offices. The InSight Channel and Explore Channel offer unique benefits to advertisers and viewers, allowing advertising messages to reach viewers at a time and place when they are open to evaluating or re-evaluating their needs.

The Welcome Center network encompasses 14 locations with a reach of approximately 10 million travelers. Michigan's Welcome Centers are located in Clare, Coldwater, Detroit, Dundee, Iron Mountain, Ironwood, Mackinaw City, Marquette, Menominee, Monroe, New Buffalo, Port Huron, St. Ignace, and Sault Ste. Marie.

The installation of Digital 10 Network's custom digital media channel is expected to be completed in all Michigan Welcome Centers by July.

Farmington Hills, MI-based Digital 10 Network (http://www.digital10network.com/) develops Custom Digital Media(TM) (CDM) channels and content, providing advertisers the opportunity to connect with consumers through addressable, relationship marketing. The firm's unique approach to marketing enables venue providers and advertisers to engage the interest of an increasingly fragmented audience, combining addressable video marketing reinforced with print marketing to willing and attentive consumers.
