About HD Radio Broadcasting
More than 1,200 AM and FM radio stations, available to approximately 80% of the U.S. population, are using HD Radio technology to transmit digital audio and data to their listeners. Beyond delivering dramatically improved sound quality over analog, digital HD Radio technology allows stations to expand their programming via HD2 multicast channels. Over 600 stations today are using HD2 channels to broadcast fresh new music and news formats, showcase young artists and local bands, air non-English language programming, and more. Other HD Radio applications include text and graphics content shown on receiver display screens and delivery of real-time traffic updates. HD Radio receivers are available from more than two dozen manufacturers at retail outlets across the county.
