Statement From Conroy Kanter
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week there was a lawsuit filed by a 10-year-old boy named Dominic Kay, who directed a short film called "Saving Angelo." Kay was suing for, among other things, "final cut" of the film. Below is a statement in answer to the suit from Conroy Kanter, the producer and financier of the film.
Conroy Kanter, producer of the short film "Saving Angelo," today responded to the allegations made against her last week in a lawsuit filed by 10-year-old Dominic Kay. Ms. Kanter, individually and through her family's foundation, contributed all of the funds that were required to produce the film with the intent of donating the film's profits to animal rights charities.
According to Ms. Kanter, "Dominic Kay is a very talented and nice young man who received a lot of help from grownups in order to bring this story to the screen. Unfortunately, he is being manipulated by the adults in his life who are behind this suit. It clearly makes for more interesting press to see a 10-year-old in litigation with a producer, but the lawsuit has nothing to do with Dominic or 'creative rights.' It has everything to do with a dispute between adults over business and monetary issues. My only concerns are that the charities who were intended to benefit actually receive the money, rather than having the profits redirected to others, and that I honor the commitments made to all of those grownups who generously contributed to this charitable project."
