Social Marketing Gurus Set Up Shop in New York City
NEW YORK, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- After producing some of the most talked about media campaigns in the last decade and becoming one of the leading social marketing firms in the country, Better World Advertising (BWA) is opening an office in New York City. Headquartered in San Francisco, BWA has worked strictly with nonprofits for the last 11 years creating powerful, penetrating and, at times, controversial messages about public health and social justice issues.
BWA was founded by Les Pappas in 1996. Since then, BWA has launched over 100 social marketing campaigns across the country dealing with different social causes and movements. Recent notable campaigns include: Don't Write Me Off: Foster Kids Are Our Kids, HIV is a gay disease, Don't Erase Your Future, and HIV STOPS WITH ME winner of multiple Webby and Telly Awards.
BWA has a strong history working with the State of New York and various community based organizations and nonprofits. Most recently, BWA partnered with the New York State Gay Black Network to produce a highly talked about anti-homophobia campaign called "I AM GAY." The campaign launched last summer with two 50-foot billboards in the heart of Harlem featuring African American men reclaiming their sexuality, neighborhood, families and faith. In addition, subway interior cards, postcards and posters were produced and placed throughout city as an effort to fight discrimination against gay and bi-sexual men within the African American community. Currently BWA is developing an anti-smoking campaign with New York State Department of Health. Nineteen smoking cessation centers across the state will participate in the planning and implementation of this campaign, which is scheduled to launch in the coming year.
BWA have also added Jessica Ingram-Bellamy and Greg Cardona to their staff as co-directors of the New York branch. Jessica Ingram-Bellamy has over ten years of experience with social welfare, public policy, social marketing, and external affairs. Most recently she worked as director of external affairs for a major New York nursing college and as senior marketing/communications consultant for the national headquarters of the Girls Scouts. Greg Cardona, also a co -director, joins the team with a wealth of experience in nonprofit communication, program management and prevention. In the last decade he has held management positions in organization such as San Francisco's Shanti Project and AIDS Project Los Angeles. His leadership has been recognized by the city of West Hollywood and the United States Conference on AIDS.
BWA will be hosting an open house February 23 at their new offices located at 2611 Fredrick Douglas, lower level suite, New York, NY at 3:00pm-4:00pm
