Henry Z. Steinway (Steinway & Sons), Roger Williams ('Autumn Leaves') to Attend Grand Opening of Chicago Piano Superstore
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Z. Steinway, the great-grandson of Henry E. Steinway, and the only remaining family member of this renowned piano making family still involved in the music industry, will attend the grand opening of Chicago Piano Superstore on Friday March 2, 2007. The event will cover the entire weekend, with guest performances on Friday, March 2, Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4.
Henry Z. Steinway, 91, graduated from Harvard in 1942. He became a factory manager for Steinway & Sons and rose to the position of president in 1955. He served as president for 20 years. Mr. Steinway rarely travels and hasn't visited the Midwest in many years. His visit for the grand opening of the new 21,000 square foot Superstore is a testament to the commitment he has to the music industry.
Roger Williams will also be attending and will perform. Named the greatest selling pianist in history by Billboard Magazine, Mr. Williams has achieved 18 Gold and Platinum albums. His 1955 hit single "Autumn Leaves" is the only piano instrumental to ever reach #1 on the Billboard singles charts. He followed that up with more million selling records including Born Free, The Impossible Dream, Til, Almost Paradise, Maria, Lara's Theme and the theme from Somewhere in Time. In all, he has had 22 hits spanning 4 decades. Mr. Williams has also been called the "Pianist to the Presidents," having performed for 8 Chief Executives. He has played in every major venue and played with the major symphony orchestras across the country. He has recently raised over a million dollars in viewer contributions on television specials benefiting PBS.
A special reception for Mr. Steinway and Mr. Williams will be hosted on Friday March 2, from 6 PM until 7:30 PM. The public is invited. Also appearing at this event will be Chicago's own Rosemary Bailey, product specialist for the Roland Corporation and winners from past Steinway Young Artist Piano competitions.
Felix Hell, 21, will be performing on the Allen Classical Organ on Sunday March 4. Mr. Hell is an award winning, world renowned organist. Born and raised in Germany, Mr. Hell received a merit-based scholarship from the Julliard School studying organ and piano. Since 2001, he has been studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 2004, Mr. Hell graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Curtis, being the youngest Organ Major ever to graduate from the world-famous conservatory. He has performed in prestigious venues all over the world. Recent winners of the Steinway Piano competition will be performing throughout the entire weekend. The new, 21,000 square-foot Chicago Piano Superstore features one of the largest selections of keyboard instruments in the country. This includes the best selection of classical and theatre organs in the Midwest. More than 200 pianos and organs are displayed in the state of the art showroom.
