TV on the Radio Run the Table on Critics' Year-End Lists, Announce Spring Tour

NEW YORK, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- TV on the Radio found themselves perched atop a plethora of "Best of '06" music roundups -- from the darkest corners of the blogosphere to the pages of The New York Times, the band's second album, Return to Cookie Mountain has been deemed furthest-from-fakakta. Rising high above the public relations nightmare of a near-fatal wolf-wrangling mishap on the set of the band's video, "Wolf Like Me," the band scored a coup with inclusion on every 2006 critics' pick list known to exist. The NY Times listed the album as the BEST of the year on account of its "eerie beauty," going on to say "these Brooklyn experimentalists muse on war, wastelands and sex with the most mysteriously beautiful -- and breathtakingly original -- art-rock in years." The band's mainstream sweep continued with Zagat -- the restaurant guide gave them perfect 30s for decor and service, and Consumer Reports gave them all filled-in circles. Spin Magazine put the quintet on the cover of their "Best of 2006" issue, calling Cookie Mountain "an hour you could spend a lifetime in." Online rabble-rousers Pitchfork declared it the only album of '06 they never tired of listening to. Filter's Chris Martins gave the record top rank and then some, having stated, "This is not an album. It's a manifesto or a mood; a statement or a lifestyle." The Associated Press pinned the LP as numero uno, saying: "From the opening herky-jerky rhythms and muted sounds of 'I Was a Lover,' you know you're hearing something different."

But don't think TVOTR lock themselves in the studio ne'er to bring their song into a dark and roaring theater. The troupe spent much of aught six on the road, picking up a horn section and some Stratocaster-mounted windchimes along the way.
