Travel Channel's 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE Affords One Couple a Customized Around-The-World Excursion
SILVER SPRING, Md., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Inspired by Patricia Schultz's best-selling travel book, the Travel Channel is launching a new series of the same name, 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE. Premiering Thursday, March 29, at 9 PM and 10 PM (ET/PT) and continuing every Thursday at 9 PM with premiere episodes through June, the show chronicles the journey of a young couple who put their lives on hold to travel the world utilizing Schultz's book as their primary guide.
Selected from over 900 couples, Albin and Melanie Ulle, newlyweds from Colorado, were chosen to plan a fourteen-week, whirlwind journey to more than thirteen countries worldwide. Making the trip at a point in their lives when they can dedicate ample time and focus on this life-changing experience, they agreed to leave their jobs and day-to-day life to travel the world experiencing its vast beauty and diverse cultures.
Each hour-long episode of 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE takes viewers to one of thirteen amazing locations including: Peru, Alaska, Vancouver, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, France, Italy, India, Nepal, Cambodia, Australia, and Hawaii. The series is shot completely in HD high-definition to capture the true beauty of these unique locations. Traveling to approximately 100 of the "1,000 Places", they visit well-known tourist sites like Machu Picchu, climb the Eiffel Tower, tour the Taj Mahal at sunset, view Venice from the canals, visit Robben Island in South Africa, and travel the Alaskan railroad.
However, the Ulles also discover the hole-in-the-wall local favorites in the same destinations like the colorful Peruvian restaurant Songoro Casongo where staff and entertainers teach diners native dances as they enjoy the cuisine. In each location, they unearth the unique local charm and traditions finding the best places to get Henna tattoos in an Indian bazaar, stomp grapes at an Italian vineyard, pan for real gold in the Yukon, ride ostriches in South Africa, or even how to gamble the night away in ritzy Monaco.
Through Albin and Melanie, the viewer experiences every new place from a very real, first-hand perspective. Additionally, local experts and guides are continually consulted about insider information and area history. Each episode displays the visually amazing and emotional experience of a trip of this magnitude, packing every hour with insightful and useful tips for the real-life traveler, as well.
"The Travel Channel believes that nothing impacts your life like travel, and this series, like the book, really embodies the spirit of exploration, discovery, and personal enrichment," said Patrick Younge, executive vice president and general manager, Discovery Travel Media. "1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE is an inspirational guide for the impassioned travel set, and we are eager to bring the pages to life for our viewers."
As part of a multi-platform experience, the series will extend at www.1000-Places.com, part of www.travelchannel.com, in March. Interactive experiences will include the ability to create a travel wish list to share with fellow travelers; a quiz to determine destinations that fit the users' interests; a Google Map to view and obtain more information, including exclusive videos, on the featured destinations in the program; as well as the Ulles' personal photographs and journals from their ultimate travel experience.
