Starz Partners With FYI - Film Your Issue(TM) to Be Exclusive Broadcaster of National 'Issue Film' Competition

National User-Generated Film Competition Kicks Off Sunday, January 21 During Festival Season in Park City, Utah

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Starz Entertainment has partnered with FYI - Film Your Issue(TM) as exclusive cable broadcast partner to air the winning films of the national competition, it was announced by FYI founder HeathCliff Rothman and Stephan Shelanski, Starz senior vice president programming. The initiative launches this Sunday, January 21 during festival season in Park City, Utah.

FYI - Film Your Issue is a national "issue film" competition inviting global citizens ages 16-25 to add their voice to the public dialogue on pressing social issues via :30 to :60 films. The selection of winning films will air on numerous Starz channels this summer. In addition to Starz Entertainment, Yahoo!/Jumpcut, USA Today, Universal Pictures, ASCAP, The United Nations Department of Public Information, The Humane Society of the United States and The Natural Resources Defense Council have also lent a hand to partner with FYI - Film Your Issue.

FYI - Film Your Issue was founded in 2003 by HeathCliff Rothman as a way to engage young adults in pressing social issues, expressed through the medium of short films. "We wanted to empower the next generation of leaders to understand how their single voices could influence the public debate, and to understand the power of democracy -- where every voice counts," said Rothman.

"As Starz Entertainment is dedicated to film, we couldn't think of a better organization to partner with than FYI," said Shelanski. "Film should be thought-provoking as well as entertaining and this is a wonderful example of merging both schools of thought through this competition."

The VIP Jury deciding the winning films include the heads of several major studios, television, internet, music and publishing, as well as senior elected government representatives. Robert Clasen, chairman and CEO of Starz, LLC and Chris McGurk, head of Starz' Overture Films join the judging jury this year. The judges are headed by Distinguished Jurist Walter Cronkite; Director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy); CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer; NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams; Terry Semel, Yahoo! chairman and CEO; Harvey Weinstein, chairman of The Weinstein Company, David Linde, co-chair of Universal Pictures and lyricist Alan Bergman.
