"For the past four years, Nickelodeon as a brand has been focused on health and wellness messaging for kids and families through its 'Let's Just Play' campaign, and other initiatives both on and off the air. Part of that effort includes our annual 'Food! Fun! Fitness!' issue of Nick Jr. Family Magazine," said Freddi Greenberg, Editor in Chief of Nick Jr. Family Magazine. "The February/March issue encourages parents to engage with their kids in active, healthy and playful lifestyles, and provides them with easy, healthy ideas to incorporate into their busy lifestyles."

Highlights in February/March issue include:

* "Game On!" (pg. 37) which discusses developments being made across the
country to help keep kids healthy, from kids' fitness programs in gyms
all over the U.S., to whole grains being included in school lunch menus.

* The "Going Organic: A Family-Friendly Guide" feature (pg. 43) follows a
family of five who takes the organic makeover challenge. Families can
refer to the week-by-week guide to gradually implement organic food
groups. The feature lists which brands were hits, as well as the types
of foods that were more of a difficult adjustment. In addition to
reading about how the family handled this change, the feature also
touches on the issue of the cost of going organic.

* "Top 10 Family Fit Tips" (pg. 55), includes fitness room makeovers,
dinner shortcuts, a family-friendly guide to eating organic, and
provides secrets from fitness experts for raising active families. Some
of the best kept secrets include: using physical activities as a treat,
rather than a chore; finding your child an athletic hero; using state-
of-the-art games and gadgets; and agreeing as a family to "skip the
shortcuts" and adapt healthy habits such as taking the stairs, rather
than the elevator. A quick quiz is also included to determine the
attitude you have towards getting your family fit.

* For families looking to improve their cooking skills, Mark Bittman, TV
host and author of How to Cook Everything, provides instructions on how
to turn basic dishes such as pasta, scrambled eggs, baked potatoes and
roast chicken into family favorites (pg. 49).

Other features in the food and fitness themed issue of Nick Jr. Family Magazine include: a feature about transforming your basement into a bright family fitness room that everyone can enjoy year round (pg. 59); "Winning Dinners" which includes delicious recipes from the winners of the 7th Annual Cooking With Kids Contests and features creative dishes such as Persian Koobideh burgers, and sweet and sour pork kebabs.
