AT&T Signs First Three-Screen Content Deal -- and Advertiser
Chase Card Services to Sponsor Tim McGraw's 'Swampstock 2006' Concert and Related Elements as They Appear Across Cingular Wireless, AT&T TV, and the PC
SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced that Chase Card Services will be the advertising sponsor for AT&T's first three-screen content deal, underscoring the company's strategy to integrate the screens many consumers value most today -- the wireless phone, the TV and the PC -- and to offer third-party advertisers cross-platform advertising opportunities that effectively engage today's consumers.
AT&T has secured exclusive rights to distribute video, music and images from "Swampstock 2006," an annual music festival and charity fundraiser held in Rayville, LA, and hosted by country music star Tim McGraw. Chase Card Services, which markets and services more than 140 million credit cards as part of leading global financial services firm JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM), has agreed to be the sole sponsor of the concert and related elements.
The concert elements will appear on the AT&T blue room ( http://www.attblueroom.com/ ), a Web site featuring music, sports, gaming and more; through video on demand (VOD) on AT&T U-verse(SM) TV and AT&T Homezone(SM) services; and via Cingular Wireless.
As part of the agreement, Chase will receive banner ads on the Swampstock area of the AT&T blue room portal, air TV spots throughout the VOD segments, and distribution of "wallpaper" and voice tones on the Cingular platform.
The program elements, which include exclusive interviews, music and behind-the-scenes footage of a casual McGraw and friends on his hometown turf, will be available to Cingular Wireless customers, AT&T U-verse and Homezone television customers, as well as to online visitors to the AT&T blue room, beginning in February 2007.
"Consumers increasingly want access to information and entertainment anywhere, anytime and via virtually any device, and we're committed to delivering a three-screen experience that is unsurpassed in the marketplace," said Scott Helbing, executive vice president - AT&T Entertainment Services, a group formed last fall to acquire and create unique and compelling content and entertainment services for consumers and to develop integrated advertising solutions for marketers.
"The 'Swampstock' concert is a great way to showcase our ability to deliver compelling content across the wireless phone, the TV and the PC -- and to help companies like Chase Card Services reach today's customers in a way that combines advertising and commerce more effectively than most traditional means of advertising," said Helbing.
"AT&T's approach represents the next evolution of the consumer-marketer relationship, where consumers get the information they want, while offering marketers the ability to make that information relevant -- by time, place and medium," said Manning Field, senior vice president, Chase Card Services. "AT&T will enable Chase to deliver a relevant message with greater accuracy to grow relationships with new and existing customers."
Over the coming year, Helbing said AT&T will begin to offer advertising opportunities on key platforms, including by late 2007, its U-verse TV service as that service becomes more widely available, driving revenue for AT&T and its third-partner advertisers.
"IP advertising empowers advertisers with a better understanding of viewer preferences and gives them an opportunity to deliver a more targeted, relevant message," said Tara Howard, industry analyst, Yankee Group. "The interactivity and commerce capabilities of IP -- combined with the ability to execute that model over TV, broadband and wireless -- offers a new and compelling communications vehicle."
Separately, the company announced that Karl Spangenberg, vice president - Integrated Advertising and Commerce, has joined AT&T Entertainment Services. Spangenberg joins AT&T with more than 25 years of sales, marketing, and general management experience in publishing, Internet start-ups, and national cable companies. He will lead efforts to deliver advertising, commerce and sponsorship opportunities across AT&T's three screens.
