Alicia Smith Named Anchor/Reporter at WXYZ-TV
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Alicia Smith will join WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 Action News as an anchor / reporter effective Monday, January 29. Alicia Smith will co-anchor "Action News This Morning" (weekdays 5-7 am) with Erik Smith. The announcement was made by WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 News Director Andrea Parquet-Taylor.
Smith comes from WWMT in Grand Rapids / Kalamazoo, where she was the weeknight co-anchor of their 5 pm and 5:30 pm newscast. In addition to anchoring, Smith also filed daily reports for the station and covered many national and local events of significance. She reported live from New York City in 2002 for the Anniversary of September 11th, traveled to Florida to cover Hurricane Jeanne, and reported live during President Bush's visit to Battle Creek.
"Alicia is an accomplished hard-working journalist who has covered major breaking news in Michigan and across the country. She is an enthusiastic team player who has always been actively involved in the community where she has worked," said Parquet-Taylor.
Smith graduated cum laude with Phi Kappa Phi honors from the University of Georgia earning a Broadcast News major from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. She minored in Political Science.
