Michigan Consumers Ask Granholm to Sign Cable Competition Bill

Michigan Consumers Ask Granholm to Sign Cable Competition Bill

ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, TV4US and more than 21,000 consumers across Michigan asked Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) to help bring real competition to Michigan's cable market by signing House Bill 6456 -- the Uniform Video Services Local Franchise Act.

TV4US, a non-profit organization educating consumers and law- and policy-makers on the benefits of consumer choice in video competition, collected more than 21,000 postcards from Michigan consumers and delivered them to the Governor today. The postcards urge Michigan legislators to pass video franchising reform -- stating that reform would bring competition to the video market and provide consumers with the choice of video providers and savings on their monthly cable bills. In addition to being delivered to the Governor, copies of the postcards were delivered to members of the State Senate last week, as they considered the legislation as well as other State Legislators.

"We applaud the state legislature for passing this important piece of legislation -- giving Michigan consumers more video choice, better customer service and lower prices," said Kelley Gannon, TV4US spokesperson. "We look forward to the Governor signing this legislation into law and delivering a big win for Michigan consumers."

The delivery of the postcards comes just days after the State Senate approved HB 6456 with overwhelming bipartisan support. Immediately following the Senate vote, the Michigan House concurred with minor Senate changes and sent the legislation to Governor Granholm's desk for her signature. Governor Granholm now has two weeks to sign HB 6456 into law.

TV4US is a non-profit organization that includes among its members a diversified group of corporations, non-profit and non-governmental organizations -- representing hundreds of thousands of consumers across the country.
