Barix Technology Takes Off in Lufthansa's VIP Planes

Barix Technology Takes Off in Lufthansa's VIP Planes

ZURICH, Switzerland, December 13/PRNewswire/ --

Barix AG today announced that Lufthansa Technik, a specialist in
equipping VIP and executive planes, is using Barix IP audio decoding
technology in its flexible inflight sound system for distinguished fliers.
The Barix Exstreamer-100 was selected as a reliable, high audio quality
alternative to space-consuming standalone CD players that also met the
stringent aviation industry requirements placed on aircraft components.

Lufthansa Technik selected Barix over competitive systems due to the user
flexibility, technical benefits, and small footprint of the Exstreamer-100,
as well as outstanding customer service. The sound system offers great
flexibility to VIP air travellers, who are given a collection of USB sticks
that display the different styles of music or content (e.g. talking books)
available. Travellers also leverage the excellent sound quality delivered by
the Exstreamer-100.

The Barix Exstreamer-100, which was the only product to offer a
non-battery-powered MP3 streamer, also features Power Interrupt Recovery to
withstand power outages instead of switching to an undefined state. This is
especially useful if non-critical systems are switched off to conserve
airplane energy due to a generator loss or similar situation.

The device also meets all other decisive criteria: Its energy-saving
electronics, consuming just 4W, is housed in a small fireproof aluminium case
and can be operated at 9-30V DC or 12-24V AC. It is also resistant against
typical vibrations in planes and temperature fluctuations when parked at
airports (from -30 degrees C to +60 degrees C depending on location). The
Exstreamer-100 also has along operating cycle without requiring adjustments
thanks to its technical robustness and simple maintainability.

The success of this project has influenced Lufthansa Technik to get other
applications off the ground: The company plans to install Barix devices in a
sound system that provides all passengers with the music they want to hear.
The first trials are currently in progress at partner Hermstedt GmbH to
connect the Exstreamer-100 to their "Hifidelio" music centre. The Internet
connection found in most VIP jets, this will open up live streams (Internet
radio) to listeners/passengers. The open standards of Barix technology will
allow for a quick and simple installation process.
