The Archimedia Workshop and Kartemquin Educational Films Announce the Co-Production of Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City
CHICAGO, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Archimedia Workshop and Kartemquin Educational Films announce their partnership to produce the first documentary film for national public television broadcast about the life and legacy of noted architect and urban planner Daniel Hudson Burnham (1846-1912). "This project brings together the strengths of each production team," said Judith Paine McBrien, the film's producer, "and we are looking forward to collaborating on such a timely project."
Make No Little Plans combines Kartemquin Films' depth of expertise in creating compelling documentaries with The Archimedia Workshop's experience in producing award-winning programs about architecture, development and urban design.
"The Daniel Burnham film project is an excellent fit with our experience and interests," explained noted filmmaker Joanna Rudnick, Kartemquin's director of development. Kartemquin has a 40-year history of producing documentaries that entertain, educate and enlighten. Its programs are broadcast nationally and internationally and include The New Americans broadcast on PBS in 2004 and Hoop Dreams, which won every major critics prize in 2005. The Archimedia Workshop's McBrien produced the 5-part series Skyline: Chicago for television broadcast as well as other programs about architects Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruce Graham, Helmut Jahn and Bertrand Goldberg,
The premiere of Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City is planned for 2009 to coincide with the centennial celebration of Burnham and Bennett's 1909 Plan of Chicago, which will include educational, civic and cultural events.
About Daniel Burnham -- Known best in Chicago, Daniel Burnham directed the building program at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and, with his partner John W. Root, developed some of the world's first skyscrapers. Later his firm designed such notable landmarks as the Flatiron Building in New York, Union Station in Washington D.C. and the Field Museum in Chicago. Burnham also created urban plans for San Francisco, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Manila, in the Philippines.
