TV One to Feature the World Television Premiere of Award-Winning Documentary 'American Blackout' on Sunday, Nov. 5

- Sundance Award-Winning Film Highlights Minority Disenfranchisement Efforts in 2000, 2002 and 2004 Elections -

SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- TV One will feature the world television premiere of the award-winning documentary "American Blackout" on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 8-10 PM (all times ET). The provocative and powerful film, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2006, chronicles a disturbing pattern of minority disenfranchisement efforts that took place from 2000-2004, in two presidential elections and in the 2002 midterm elections. "American Blackout" examines the contemporary tactics used to influence the American democratic process and diffuse political dissent.

The film explores the historic and systematic disenfranchisement of black voters through the lens of the political career of recently defeated Rep. Cynthia McKinney, one of the most controversial and outspoken politicians in America.

"American Blackout" features interviews with U.S. Representatives John Lewis, Cynthia McKinney, John Conyers, Bernie Sanders, and Stephanie Tubbs- Jones; former US Civil Rights Commissioner and Dean of UC Berkeley's School of Law Christopher Edley; BBC journalist Greg Palast; and Van Jones, Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center.

The film is directed by Ian Inaba, founder of the Guerilla News Network, who used the film's success to launch VideoTheVote.org, to encourage nationwide activism against voter suppression and for voting rights. The film is produced by Anastasia King. The film was released theatrically in select markets in September 2006. It will re-air on TV One at midnight Nov. 5, Monday, Nov. 6 at noon and Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 PM and is available on DVD (for more information go to http://www.tvoneonline.com/ ).
