Marcia Cross Receives Lifetime Shredding after Personal Photos Found in Trash
BENSALEM, Pa., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ShredStation, a document destruction company, today announced that it has offered "Desperate Housewife" Marcia Cross a lifetime of free shredding after David Hans Schmidt got his hands on her tax returns and more than 200 personal photos of the actress from her garbage. The company is also offering every publicist's office in Los Angeles a free ShredStation vault and one year of free service.
"The dramatic increase of celebrity-focused websites and blogs, combined with how invasive the paparazzi has become, demonstrate that the country's obsession with anything celebrity-related is at an all-time high," said Al Villamil, President, ShredStation. "We all know how likely ID theft has become - California is the 3rd worst state - but personal privacy is harder to quantify. Celebrities like Marcia are at even higher risk because of their place in the public eye. We are happy to bring ShredStation vaults to Hollywood to help protect celebrity privacy."
Americans throw away more than 600 pounds of garbage each year - and an estimated 30 pounds of that garbage is sensitive information. Given the desperation of the press and general public to find the "inside scoop" on their Hollywood favorites, celebrities should not be placing personal information in their garbage cans.
In further efforts to help combat privacy intrusion, ShredStation vaults are being offered to every publicist's office in Los Angeles so celebrities, personal assistants and publicists can conveniently shred their documents in a convenient location. Publicists interested in receiving their complimentary ShredStation vault should call: 877.89-VAULT.
ShredStation vaults are fully automated, self-diagnostic and totally secure. They are made of reinforced steel and stand at just over four feet tall - similar in design to a FedEx or DHL package drop box.
All ShredStation vault contents will be destroyed by a local document destruction agency.

How a ShredStation Transaction Works:
1. The customer seals all sensitive information to be shredded inside a
secure ShredStation envelope (available at each vault). Each envelope
is capable of holding up to two pounds of material.
2. The customer places sealed envelope in ShredStation deposit vault and
swipes a credit or debit card in card reader on the machine.
3. The transaction ID number on the receipt is automatically registered on
the ShredStation website. Customers receive notification via text
message or email of exact time of document destruction.
4. ShredStation deposit vault automatically notifies the local document
destruction company to schedule on-site destruction of contents.
5. ShredStation Licensed Agents remove and shred contents on-site using
industrial cross cut mobile shredding trucks, capable of hauling tons
of crushed shredded waste paper. All licensed agents are required to
pass the same background and clearance checks as FBI agents. All
contents are pulped and recycled according to professional standards.
ShredStation boxes are being installed in a variety of retail locations throughout the country including banks, pharmacies grocery stores and office buildings. More than 500 ShredStation vaults are currently being rolled out to 10 markets throughout the country. The company plans to expand to more than 150 markets by the end of 2006.
