FLORENCE, Miss., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of friends and family members from Mississippi have organized a movement to express their shared concern over the practice of substituting "Happy Holidays," "Merry Xmas," and "Season's Greetings" for the traditional "Merry Christmas."

The group has composed and recorded a song entitled "Not in My Town" that expresses their belief that, according to the group's founder Freddie Sanford, "when it comes to this wonderful season, an X just doesn't get it - not in my town!"

Sanford says the movement is dedicated to "keeping the spirit of the season alive and at home in our hearts."

In addition to the CD, Sanford and his family and friends have also developed a line of tee-shirts and bracelets expressing their opposition to generic Christmas symbols and phrases and their passion for sharing and restoring to Americans the foundations of Christmas: love, family, and giving THE GIFT back to towns across the country.

The group's philosophy is more fully explained on its website: www.notinmytown.net. CD's and other merchandise are available for purchase via the website.

Sanford, who drives a truck throughout Mississippi during evening hours, came up with the idea to promote the "Not in My Town" concept and the idea caught on quickly with his friends and family members.

Mississippi musician DaRon Maughon, who wrote the lyrics for "Not in My Town" at the urging of his uncle David Maughon and cousin Sanford, says, "Politics should never silence purpose, marketplace "madness" can never replace meaningful celebration, and fads can never triumph over family."

Maughon adds that the "Not in My Town" movement is not at all negative. "Not In My Town'" is really more of a relationship philosophy...our relationship to the ultimate Gift, and our sharing and celebrating the life of this Gift with each other," Maughon said.
