Yale Gives Richard Lewis Hell
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Yale Book of Quotations, published by Yale University Press, October 2006, attributes to Richard Lewis the expression, "the (blank) from hell," as in "I had a date from hell." Asked how he felt these years after he created a phrase that is an integral part of daily vernacular and advertising jargon, Lewis uncharacteristically said, "I'm completely in heaven."
What started as part of his popular, early stand-up comedy routine, "I had a date from hell," from which he digressed into the pains of his relationships and, in general, of feeling victimized by practically everything on earth, has now become a well aged, fine whine and been popularized enough to be commonly used even as a marketing slogan. Having a marketing degree from OSU, Lewis shouldn't find that surprising.
Lewis, having survived his excruciating 'kidney arc' last season, has begun taping the 6th season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm." The show, and Lewis, have garnered heaps of praise and awards and is now catching on in Europe. He's also featured in this years Simpson's Halloween Special called Treehouse of Horror XVII, in episode "You Gotta Know when to Golem," Bart steals a clay Golem for Krusty and enjoys having a personal slave but the family grows tired of the Golem's neurotic personality and creates a clay female counterpart to keep it in line (Fran Drescher).
Also this fall Lewis will continue touring with upcoming October dates to include on Oct. 21st The Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT and on Oct. 28th The Kirby Performing Arts Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He'll also be featured in a high profile book, "I'm Dying Up Here," which chronicles the collective coming of age of the standup comedians who defined American humor during the past three decades covering: Letterman, Leno, Robin Williams, Andy Kaufman, and Garry Shandling among others, by author William Knoedelseder. Another book, unveiling the behind the scenes highlights of the 5th season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has just been released on Gotham Books as is that season's DVD compilation.
