New Indie Music Company Leverages Web in Charitable Giving Program
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Circle Back Music Corporation today announced its strategy to raise money and give back to the community with the help of the Internet. Visitors to the Circle Back website (http://www.circlebackmusic.com/) can contribute to the fundraising campaign by voting for non-profits which will receive 10% of Circle Back's profits.
"We're not your typical music business model. In looking at how to launch the company, we couldn't shake the notion that 'revolutions' are by the people, for the people. We wanted to tap that power which is so perfectly aligned with our vision and tie it to our supporting organizations," says Kelly McCartney, Circle Back's Founder and CEO.
When fans make a purchase from the website, they also get to vote for which non-profit receives 10% of their transaction plus a portion of Circle Back's future profits. The participating groups are Axis of Justice, FINCA International, Honor the Earth, Sweatshop Watch, Women for Women International, and Worth Our Weight.
"We're very excited at the potential this has. It makes it easy for consumers to support causes like ours and buy great music at the same time," says Tom Reed, Program Manager for Honor the Earth. "Circle Back rocks - not just your ears, but your sense of justice too."
Most of the songs are from independent musicians, but artists including Natalie Merchant, Maroon 5, and Jeff Russo (of Tonic) have contributed auction items or tracks to help the efforts.
Also representing the artist roster on Circle Back's Board of Directors, Russo is taking an active role in the company: "This is a chance to do things differently in the music business. By getting involved with Circle Back as both an artist and an adviser, I can help create and guide the vision. That's a rare and exciting opportunity."
Circle Back Music's name reflects the idea of giving back to both the artistic and larger communities. The newly formed company will offer comprehensive touring and record label services to independent singer- songwriters. The socially conscious, innovative model will offer its artists greater profitability, creative control, ownership, and long-term support for their artistic goals - things not generally available in the music industry.
"To quote Al Gore: 'Doing the right thing moves us forward.' You don't have to choose between doing what's right for the world and what's right for the company or individual. They are actually linked," explains McCartney. "That idea is our foundation, our triple bottom line: people, planet, profits."
Taking a progressive approach in an industry that is at a crossroads, McCartney sums up the vision simply: "Artists will reap greater rewards for their work; fans will enjoy affordable, flexible pricing and great music; and we get to donate a portion of our profits to groups working for the greater good. Everyone wins."
