Napster Offers 'Free Download of the Day' on Napster.com

A Free MP3 Each Morning Gives Music Fans a Wake-Up Call, Courtesy of Intel

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Napster, Inc. (NASDAQ:NAPS), the digital music pioneer, today announced the debut of a sponsored "Free Download of the Day" feature on www.Napster.com, the Web-based free music experience the award-winning digital music service launched earlier this year.

Launching today, the Free Download of the Day offers music fans a free MP3, which is compatible with a range of MP3 players including all iPod models, from an emerging or established artist each day of the year. Napster also announced that the Download of the Day is debuting courtesy of Intel Corporation. The Company will be promoting Intel(R) Viiv(TM) technology, which is the platform for digital entertainment, via this feature over the next three months.

"Napster's Free Download of the Day will feature the best up-and-coming bands and a few surprises from some big stars," said Matthew Adell, vice president of music services for Napster. "We believe a new, free MP3 each day will be exciting for music fans and will prove to be a great way to create awareness for artists and value for marketers, who can work with Napster to associate their brands with this great music."

The first week of free downloads will feature music from Sanctuary, including a track from Iron Maiden's newest hit album, as well as Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) artists, including "Nature of the Experiment" from newbie indie rockers Tokyo Police Club and "Bread on the Table" from Grammy-nominated country singer Tom Wurth. In addition to Sanctuary and IODA, labels who have signed on to provide content for the Free Download of the Day program include !K7 Records, Indeyo Records, One Little Indian Records, and Sarathan Records. Featured downloads will be archived and available for seven days on a dedicated history page at http://www.napster.com/freedownloads, also sponsored by Intel.

Intel's integrated sponsorship package also includes advertising placements across Napster's inventory, including logo integration on the Napster.com homepage and in Napster's free, Web-based music player and banners throughout the Napster Web site. A sweepstakes will also launch on December 1, 2006 with prizes supplied by both Intel and Napster.
