Comcast Teams Up With Community to Make Schools Safer, Cleaner and Better for Thousands of Students

3,000 Bay Area Parents, Teachers, Students and Comcast Employees Participate in 6th Annual Comcast Cares Day to Improve Bay Area Schools

SAN RAMON, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 3,000 Comcast employees from around the Bay Area will volunteer to improve 18 Bay Area schools as part of Comcast Cares Day, Comcast's annual company-wide day of service on Saturday, October 7, 2006. Nationwide, Comcast expects more than 30,000 volunteers to participate in 34 states and the District of Colombia, making Comcast Cares Day one of the largest, single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the United States.

"At Comcast, we appreciate how incredibly important community service is to the health and well-being of the neighborhoods we serve," said Brian L. Roberts, Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our employees and their families have generously given of their time and talents to help improve their communities. We're very proud of their contributions, and are delighted to be working with almost 300 partner groups throughout the country to make this year's Comcast Cares Day a resounding success."

Comcast Unveils Special Project in Concord, CA

Every year, Comcast Bay Area undertakes a unique project as an extra special contribution to the local community. Last year, Comcast donated a brand-new $70,000 play structure to Browns Valley Elementary School in Vacaville, when state funds were not available.

This year, Comcast is investing more than $85,000 to create a state-of-the-art music studio -- with all the necessary equipment including new computers and software -- at Olympic High School in Concord, the only continuation school in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. The new studio allows Olympic High School and the Bay Area Video Coalition's Bay Unity Music Project (BUMP) to launch an on-campus, after-school program that teaches digital recording to students.

"Comcast is providing our 300 students with an opportunity they may not otherwise have," said Rinda Bartley, Principal at Olympic High School.

"By investing in programs for our youth, we can help our communities grow stronger as a whole. That's why we're so proud to help create Olympic High School's new music studio, and give students a hands-on opportunity to acquire real-world trade skills and experience," added Rick Germano, Regional Senior Vice President, Comcast California.

Comcast Volunteering Continues Long After Cares Day

In addition to the more than 16,000 hours of service for schools on October 7th, Comcast employees in the Bay Area volunteer their time year-round to a variety of projects and organizations through the company's Comcast Cares program.

"Service is extremely important to us at Comcast, because we strive to provide the best service to our customers as well as to be of service to our community," said Germano. "Our team is dedicated to our community throughout the year and especially on Comcast Cares Day when we focus to improve Bay Area schools for our children to be in safer, cleaner and better environments in which to learn and prosper."
