The Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park in Partnership With IMG Artists to Launch Unprecedented Cultural Event

Festival of the Arts BOCA

An Eleven Day Celebration of Music, Art, Literature, Film, Food & Wine

BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park (CFA) is proud to present Festival of the Arts BOCA, an unprecedented cultural arts event for South Florida that will span eleven full days and is sure to rival many national and international festivals of its kind.

The Festival, to be held at the Count De Hoernle Amphitheater in Boca Raton, will feature only the finest in music, art, literature, food and wine.

"We have been very ambitious and aggressive in all of our planning," said Charlie Siemon, Festival Chair, Board of CFA. "The level of artists to be featured, for this our inaugural year, as well as the extent of the program, is simply extraordinary. This is truly a first for South Florida, an event that should make the City of Boca Raton an annual destination for music and art lovers."

IMG Artists, a leader in worldwide cultural arts management and producer of two world renowned festivals, Tuscan Sun Festival, a late summertime festival in Cortona, Italy and Festival del Sole Napa, a mid-July festival in Napa Valley, California, is working closely in partnership with CFA in the planning and execution of this first-rate event.

"We are extremely excited to be involved in helping to create this distinctive event that presents the best in music, literature, and fine cuisine. IMG Artists and CFA realized an opportunity to provide world-class cultural offerings in an existing, quality tourist destination. Boca is a perfect location, especially in the height of the season, to host an event of this magnitude," said Barrett Wissman, Chairman of IMG Artists.

Daily concerts will include some of the top names in classical, opera, jazz and Latin music, while literary discussions and readings will feature leading authors.

Vladimir Jurowski, one of the most talked-about and exciting young conductors in the world of music today, will lead the Russian National Orchestra. The opening night concert will be conducted by another rising star, Teodor Currentzis, Music Director of Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Featured soloists include: violinist Itzhak Perlman, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, pianists Yefim Bronfman and Helene Grimaud, cellist Nina Kotova, and flutists Lady Jeanne and Sir James Galway. Stepping-up the beat, the Yellowjackets, of Billboard fame, will present an evening of jazz.

The final day will open with an early evening concert featuring the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia with jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and his band, followed by a performance and dancing in the Plaza with Tiempo Libre, one of the hottest Latin bands of today. Pre and post concert events will be held offering a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to meet and socialize with the artists.

Additionally, Festival of the Arts BOCA brings the opportunity to attend literary programs, lectures and receptions featuring noted American playwright Edward Albee, best known for works including Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Zoo Story, and The Sandbox.

Other authors include David Ebershoff, the publishing director of The Modern Library, a division of Random House and author of The Danish Girl, and Pulitzer-Prize winning Newsweek Columnist Anna Quindlen, author of four bestselling novels, including Rise and Shine, her new book currently on the New York Times Best Seller list.

Festival of the Arts BOCA has also partnered with the Palm Beach International Film Festival to showcase award winning films with scores featuring Festival artists such as Memoirs of a Geisha (with music performed by Itzhak Perlman) and other award winning films including The Pianist and The Cotton Club, as well as documentaries that explore the worlds of music and literature.

What's art and culture without food and wine?

Boca Bacchanal, presented by the Boca Raton Historical Society, will occur in tandem with the Festival and represent the food and wine component. Boca Bacchanal will feature wine tastings and vintner's dinners in private homes and a wine auction to be held at the Boca Resort.

Special programming to accompany the Festival is planned at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. The Festival will also offer educational extension programs for music students, including attendance at rehearsals, master classes, school visits and artist meet and greets.

Festival of the Arts BOCA will kick off March 1 with a VIP Opening fundraiser at a private museum. The festival will open to the public the next day and continue through March 11.
