Presented in partnership with NAMIC-Southern California and benefiting the NAMIC Foundation, the NAMIC Vision Awards honors cable networks producing quality, multi-ethnic and cross-cultural original programming content. The wide range of categories recognized include Animation, Children's, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Foreign Language, Music Video, News/Informational, Original Movie or Special, Reality, Variety/Talk Show, and Best Actor/Actress honors in Comedy and Drama. Original programs that aired on a cable network between the dates of November 1, 2005 and October 31, 2006 are eligible.
"Cable has made a resolute commitment to producing original content that is culturally and intellectually diverse," said Kathy Johnson, president, NAMIC. "The NAMIC Vision Awards is the only vehicle honoring those networks promoting diverse programming depicting a wide array of images and viewpoints."
A distinguished panel comprised of professionals from the entertainment industry, media, education and civic community, will judge all entries meeting the eligibility requirements. Judging will be focused on overall imagery (creative merit, originality, and presentation quality), sensitivity (the consideration given to cultural nuances), writing (the depiction of issues relevant to people of color) and the quality of acting in the performance categories.
