New Television Advertising Campaign Proclaims Frontier 'Denver's Favorite Airline'
Flip, Jack, Larry and Griz Try to Avoid the Paparazzi, as Denver Travelers Name Frontier Their Favorite Airline in Recent Study
DENVER, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ:FRNT) on Sunday launched the first in a new series of television commercials that will air in the Denver market over the next six weeks, featuring several of the familiar animals that appear on Frontier aircraft tails, and a bold new advertising message: Frontier is Denver's favorite airline.
The advertising is based on a survey commissioned by Frontier and conducted by independent research firm Harris Interactive(R) in July 2006. Harris Interactive surveyed online nearly 600 Denver-area travelers about their airline preferences. When asked what airline is their favorite, more respondents chose Frontier than any other airline. Frontier was chosen more often than second place United by fifteen percentage points and by thirty-five percentage points compared to Southwest.
The first television spot in the new Frontier campaign, which aired during Sunday's Denver Broncos - Kansas City Chiefs game, depicts Jack the Rabbit, Larry the Lynx, Griz the Grizzly Bear and Flip the Dolphin, hiding on the tails of Frontier's Airbus A319 aircraft to avoid the paparazzi onslaught accompanying Frontier's new "Denver's favorite" status.
The ad campaign, created by Grey Worldwide, will include several more television spots in addition to the one that debuted Sunday, along with an out-of-home component. The newest commercial can be seen here: http://www.frontierairlines.com/frontier/fun-stuff/commercials.do
"The Frontier brand promises our customers we are 'a whole different animal' when it comes to service, value, operations and the overall passenger experience," said Andrew Hudson, Frontier senior director of corporate sales, marketing and communications. "This new campaign demonstrates we've delivered on that promise and are proud that Denver's hometown airline is also rated Denver's favorite airline."
Other findings from the survey conducted by Harris Interactive:
* 73% of the travelers surveyed agreed strongly or somewhat with the
statement "Frontier Airlines provides great customer service." Not
only do 97% of the travelers who identified Frontier as their favorite
airline agree -- so do 65% of those whose favorite is United.
* 82% of respondents agreed strongly or somewhat that "Frontier Airlines
is a friendly airline," including 98% who say Frontier is their
favorite, and 74% of those whose favorite airline is United.
* 61% of respondents agreed strongly or somewhat that "Frontier Airlines
has a reputation of being the most well-liked airline in my area,"
including 80% who say Frontier is their favorite, and 54% who say
United is their favorite.
"Our research shows Frontier Airlines clearly has established a strong product preference among travelers in the Denver area," said Jim Quilty, vice president -- travel and tourism research for Harris Interactive Inc. "Frontier performed well in the survey results versus competitors across a broad range of metrics supporting its 'Denver's favorite' claim, including in-flight service, friendliness and good value for the money."
Frontier has a long history of popular advertising featuring its trademark talking animals, who first appeared on the tails of Frontier aircraft in 1994, and then as TV stars in the ad campaign in 2003. Frontier's "Send Flip to Mexico" advertising campaign was honored with a Silver Clio Award at the 2006 International Clio Awards Festival. The Clio Awards, the world's most recognized international advertising awards competition, recognized Frontier's efforts in the Content and Contact category, the first time Frontier's advertising won a coveted Clio Award.
About the Survey
This survey was conducted online within Denver by Harris Interactive on behalf of Frontier Airlines between July 10 and July 20, 2006 among 595 adults (aged 18 and over and have flown on a commercial airline at least once in the past three years). Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.
With a pure probability sample of 595, one could say with a ninety-five percent probability that the overall results have a sampling error of +/- four percentage points. Sampling error for subsamples would be higher and would vary. However that does not take other sources of error into account. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
