LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Azteca America is pleased to announce that it will be honored by the City of Los Angeles during the Sept. 15 session of the LA City Council in a session presided by Council President Eric Garcetti.
Azteca America, the newest and fastest-growing Hispanic television network, is establishing its corporate headquarters in the Century City area of Los Angeles. Azteca America expects to employ a total of 200 people in Los Angeles by year's end.
The shift from its parent company TV Azteca's Mexico City location is a signal of the growing commitment of Azteca America to the Los Angeles community. In February of this year, the network moved its network news operations to Los Angeles, making it the only Hispanic network in the country to have network news based in Los Angeles, the center and most important city in the country for Latino residents.
In line with its community involvement, Azteca America is working in conjunction with the Los Angeles Public Library on a bilingual reading program, where on-screen talent will be visiting library branches throughout Latino Heritage Month for reading hours to foment literacy and the use of the public library system as part of the "Para Crecer, Acercate al Saber/To Grow, Get Closer to Knowledge" campaign.
Azteca America is also working in conjunction with the LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) on an educational campaign that includes special news segments and public service announcements on adoption and the prevention of child abuse.
"We are proud to be honored by the City of Los Angeles. As we partner with the Los Angeles Public Library and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, we are proving that Azteca America is Los Angeles," said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America. "We are here to celebrate fives years on the air in Los Angeles at the same time that our parent organization Grupo Salinas celebrates its 100-year anniversary. Our company is an example of the greatness that Mexico has to offer and we showcase with much dignity."
These programs are part of the celebration of Latino Heritage Month and Azteca America in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles City Council during its chamber session.
Azteca America will also be bringing talent from its popular La Academia musical reality show as part of the evening festivities of the traditional "Grito" celebration of Mexico's independence. The talent will be part of a two-hour program from which a special transmission will be broadcast by Azteca America.
