Bob Seger Launches Face The Promise, First Studio Album in 11 Years
Seger's First National Television Performance Scheduled for September 14th on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' Followed by an Appearance on 'The View'
Three iTunes Releases Mark First-Ever Sale of Seger Downloads
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- "I think I'm probably the most unlikely guy who was ever called a rock star," Bob Seger has said -- and it's easy to see why. Although the one-time auto factory worker is now a Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who's sold nearly 50 million records, he's kept a remarkably low profile. With Face The Promise, his first studio album in 11 years, Seger returns to the forefront with a pivotal album that proves one of the truly defining voices of America still has his finger firmly pressed on the nation's pulse. In the words of the New York Times, which profiled him in last Sunday's "Arts & Leisure" section, "Mr. Seger gets back in the game and sounds as if he hasn't lost a step."
Seger will launch the album with a series of career firsts that will bring this compelling work to audiences he's never reached before -- on the airwaves and online. On September 14th, Seger will make his first appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" -- which will also mark his first-ever national network television performance. He'll also perform on "The View" on September 28th.
The recent release of the first single "Wait for Me" on iTunes marked the first time fans have been able to purchase a Seger song via download. Seger's breakthrough 1976 album, Night Moves, (now 6 times Platinum) was released on iTunes on September 5th. Anyone who purchases the album on iTunes will also receive a special interview segment with Seger about Night Moves. Also beginning September 5th, fans will be able to pre-order Face The Promise with a bonus track ("Red Eye to Memphis"). Those who pre-order the album between September 5th and 12th will receive a free bonus download of the video for "Wait for Me."
In another first for Seger, Face The Promise will be available for streaming exclusively in its entirety on over 455 Clear Channel Radio station web sites from September 5th through September 10th. For details, log on to www.clearchannelmusic.com.
On September 12th, Seger will celebrate the album's release with a live, 90-minute interview special airing in New York (WAXQ), Los Angeles (KLOS), Chicago (WLUP), Boston (WZLX), Philadelphia (WMGK, WZZO), Washington, D.C. (WARW), Detroit (WCSX), Dallas (KZPS), Minneapolis (KQRS), Cleveland (WNCX), Indianapolis (WFBQ), Miami/Ft. Lauderdale (WBGG), San Diego (KGB), Louisville (WWWY), Raleigh (WRDU) and over 150 other stations across North America. He'll spin tracks off the album, talk about its making, respond to listener calls and emails and more on this Premiere Radio Networks special.
Billboard hailed the first single, "Wait for Me" as "inspired ... vintage and yet so craftily produced that it serves as a connect between the memories of a master and a surprisingly relevant new chapter." "Entertainment Tonight" aired its exclusive interview with Seger on September 4th. Seger appears on the November cover of Guitar World Acoustic.
With Seger's trademark blend of urgency, honesty, and yearning, Face The Promise chronicles both the heartbreaking and heartening truths of the American experience, tackling such diverse subjects as technology, consumerism, the war in Iraq, ecology and the fleeting nature of love and life. It features 11 Seger originals (including a duet with Patty Loveless) plus one rockin' cover song: Vince Gill's "Real Mean Bottle." Seger is joined by fellow Michigan native Kid Rock on the song, which Gill wrote about Merle Haggard.
A special CD/DVD edition of Face The Promise will also be available. In addition to the album's twelve songs, the special CD/DVD edition features a brief historical look at Seger, a segment on the making of Face The Promise, the music videos for "Like A Rock" and "The Fire Inside," and rare live historical performance footage ("Still The Same" and "Hollywood Nights") from a 1978 San Diego concert.
Seger's 1994 Greatest Hits is currently #7 on Billboard's pop catalog chart, where it has perennially been a Top 10 seller in an unbroken 600-week run -- a clear indication that such vivid tales of working class lives as "Night Moves," "Turn The Page," "Old Time Rock & Roll," "Against The Wind," and "Mainstreet" resonate as much now as when they were first recorded. With Face The Promise, this masterful storyteller begins a new volume, extending his legacy into the 21st century.
