Verizon Business Rolls Out High Definition Video Transport Service in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Region

New Service Enables Broadcast, Entertainment Companies to Transmit High-Definition Content at a Low Cost

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Business today announced it has launched a high-definition digital video transport service for broadcast and entertainment companies and other businesses in 13 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

The new service, Hi-Def DVTS, addresses a need to cost-effectively transport video content without the use of costly compression equipment and without affecting the quality of the video. The service is available in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia and Vermont.

Hi-Def DVTS expands and complements the existing Verizon Business suite of digital video transport services and leading-edge solutions for multi-channel syndication, fast turnaround production and digital media asset-management.

"The high-definition broadcast industry is growing dramatically. As the demand for content grows, Verizon Business is working with customers to find ways to transport content from point to point without impacting the quality of the video," said Tom Roche, vice president for network, voice and data services for Verizon Business. "This service is another way Verizon Business is responding to the demands of the broadcast industry to transport and manage its content while helping our customers hold the line on costs."

High-definition television (HDTV) transmits television signals with a greater resolution than the traditional National Televisions System Committee (NTSC) analog standard for North America. The service, provided via fiber- optic facilities, is ideal for broadcast networks to transport high-definition video and audio signals to affiliate stations or a satellite uplink/downlink; or to transport video from a sports or entertainment venue to a production facility.

Verizon Business provides a wide range of services to meet the unique needs of broadcast and entertainment companies. Services range from digital video transport and support services including Hi-Def DVTS; Analog TV-1 a video transport service that is available in the Northeast and select Verizon franchise areas; and Serial Digital Component (SDI) broadcast video services; to cutting-edge technology for editing, managing and distributing digital media content cost-effectively and more efficiently.
