Starz Names Chelsye J. Burrows Vice President, Programming Publicity
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Starz Entertainment Group LLC (SEG) senior vice president of corporate communications Tom Southwick today announced the promotion of Chelsye J. Burrows to the newly created position of vice president, programming publicity. Burrows had been executive director of corporate communications.
In her new post Burrows will be responsible for generating publicity for all SEG programming including programming on the Starz and Encore linear channels, SEG's on demand services and the MoviePlex, RetroPlex, and IndiePlex channels. She will also oversee efforts to publicize sweepstakes and events sponsored by Starz including those co-sponsored with Starz affiliates. She will continue to report to Southwick.
"In the past few years the amount and quality of original programming on the Starz linear channels and on-demand services has increased dramatically," Southwick said. "As a consequence, the job of promoting that programming has also expanded. Chelsye and her team have dramatically boosted awareness of Starz programming. As we continue to expand our programming offerings, Chelsye will play an even more critical role in keeping Starz top-of-mind among the media and consumers."
Burrows said "I look forward to the challenge of making Starz a household word when it comes to must-see premium television programming. My colleagues in the programming department have some great plans for new ventures in the coming years, and my team and I will have a ball generating publicity for them."
Recent efforts led by Burrows included publicity for "New Orleans Music In Exile" original documentary and screening in New Orleans; development of satellite media tours for celebrities ranging from Sir Roger Moore (for the Starz on Demand Bond festival) to Richard O'Brien (for the documentary "Midnight Movies: from the Margin to the Mainstream"); and coordination of the entertainment for the Cable in the Classroom Leaders in Learning Gala Event in Washington D.C.
This fall she and her team will focus on generating publicity for a wide range of programming including the documentaries "Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter S. Thompson on Film" and "Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of The Slasher Film."
Burrows joined Starz in 1999 as director of multicultural communications and was promoted to executive director of corporate communications in 2003. She came to SEG from the Uniworld Group, Inc. in New York, one of the nation's leading multicultural advertising agencies. At UniWorld she handled public relations activities for such clients as AT&T, Bank of America, Ford Motor Company and Kraft Foods, Inc. Prior to that Burrows spent eight years at Home Box Office (HBO) starting as regional affiliate public relations manager and progressing to the position of affiliate public relations director. Previously she worked as a senior associate at Burson Marsteller in Chicago, as promotions manager at WRIC-TV in Richmond, VA, and as a public information specialist with the District of Columbia government.
Burrows holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in broadcast journalism and Spanish and a masters degree in Public Relations, both from The American University. She is a member of the National Association of Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) and is a 2005 graduate of NAMIC's Executive Leadership Program (EDLP) held in conjunction with the John Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.
