Higher Gas Prices Causing Many Americans to Alter Vacations
While two-thirds of American families say they haven't yet scaled back their summer vacations because of higher gas prices, the other one-third are significantly changing their travel plans. The Conference Board reports this in a special survey. Among families who are changing plans because of the run- up in gas prices, 63 percent say they will be staying closer to home, about 26 percent say they have postponed or shortened their vacations this year, and about the same number say they are canceling vacation plans because of high gas prices. The survey was conducted before news reports announced an alleged plot to blow up aircraft en route to the U-S from London.

X-M subscribers will be able to hear Dylan's first studio album in five years, Modern Times, the day before it's released to the public. New Census Data Shows Dramatic Increase in Latinos, Asian Americans
The Applied Research Center has released data showing dramatic increases in U-S communities of color. Pulled from newly released census data, the analysis confirms an increasingly multi- racial, multi-national and multi- lingual nation that demands new attention from policymakers. The A-R-C found a 5 point 6 percent increase in Blacks, while Asians and Pacific Islanders are up 18 point 5 percent compared to five years ago. The biggest increases came in the Latino community, which grew by 7 million between 2000 and 2005, an increase of nearly 20 percent.
