Low-budget indie Christian thriller takes audiences on a journey of faith

BOLIVAR, Mo., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- When a Christian missionary sends out a desperate plea for help, an elite rescue group is sent to his aid. But with the secret mission turning into the fight of their lives, the members of Squad 77 must decide whether to trust each other and rely on God -- or face certain disaster.

That is the premise of Squad 77 (http://www.squad77movie.com/), a new movie by Duststorm Productions. Released to DVD this week, the fast-paced action adventure is a low-budget indie film that looks and feels more like a summer blockbuster.

"Squad 77 is a $20,000 film that most viewers mistake for a large-budget indie project," explained Squad 77 writer and co-director Reece Tedford. "It is a powerful and dramatic story that directly relates to current world events."

Produced and co-directed by industry veteran Michelle Mendoza, Squad 77 features music from various up-and-coming Christian artists, including Super Bowl XXXIX guest performer and 2003 CATS talent search winner Lyrycyst; Shadow Martin, whose underground platinum single "Let It Rain" has been downloaded over two million times; George Moss, who also appears in the film; Last Year Portrait, Three Cord Wonder, Abandon Kansas and Empty Handful. The Squad 77 cast includes Jeff Howard, Nicole Smith, Mindy Byram, Aaron Groben, John Symonds, Mandy Garrett, Josh Truax and Jason Bailey.

Already Squad 77 has piqued international interest: Broadcast deals have been made in New Zealand, Australia, Romania and Indonesia. A Squad 77 graphic novel and video game are in the works with Epos Entertainment.

"I have worked on many indie movie sets and I have to say, with the budget these guys were working with, they really made it come together," stated Howard. "You give them a real budget and I will guarantee not just a good movie but a great movie. They banged it out in record speed. This was my first Christian film, and I would be honored to do another."
