Boston Red Sox Overtake New York Yankees on the TicketsNow July Entertainment Index

'Wicked' Continues Its Reign at the Top in Theater and Overall Sales

CHICAGO, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boston Red Sox squeezed into the number one spot over the New York Yankees in sports ticket sales for July according to the TicketsNow Entertainment Index. On the Index, seven of the top 10 spots in overall ticket sales were occupied by baseball teams: Boston Red Sox (#2), New York Yankees (#3), Chicago Cubs (#4), Chicago White Sox (#5), St. Louis Cardinals (#6), Detroit Tigers (#8), and Baltimore Orioles (#10).

Despite the team's losing record, Chicago Cubs fans still descend upon Wrigley Field to support the team. The Cubs sit in the number 3 spot at 7.70% for sports ticket sales, and fourth in overall ticket sales with 4.22%. They continue to have a stronghold over their crosstown foes and defending World Series champs, the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox currently sit at the number 4 spot for sports ticket sales with 3.98%, and fifth for overall sales at 2.18%.

"As the pennant races heat up and the Red Sox and Yankees once again battle it out for the division title, tickets for these two teams will continue to be in high demand," says Kenneth Dotson, Chief Marketing Officer for TicketsNow. "And with so many teams still in the hunt for a chance at the Playoffs, we could see a shift in ticket popularity."

Wicked remained number one this month with 5.62% of overall sales on TicketsNow. The theatrical musical about the untold story of the witches of Oz consistently proves to be the hottest ticket across all event genres. The American Idols Live tour led concert sales, topping Tim McGraw & Faith Hill and Dave Matthews Band.
