ABC & ESPN Choose Soul Asylum's Single 'Stand Up And Be Strong' for Their College Football Coverage

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings is proud to announce that ABC and ESPN have chosen Soul Asylum's single "Stand Up And Be Strong" from the band's new studio album "The Silver Lining," for their college football coverage during the 2006-07 season. Beginning September 2nd, the first weekend of college football, "Stand Up And Be Strong" will be used in the lead-ins and outs, bumpers, and montages for every game that weekend, as well as all the studio shows. Continuing throughout the season, "Stand Up And Be Strong" will appear in the same capacity on ESPN during three games each weekend and the five biggest games throughout the season. ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPN U will re-air the games and shows with "Stand Up and Be Strong" up to five times each week following the weekend of live coverage. Since the release of "The Silver Lining" on July 11th, the band has performed "Stand Up And Be Strong" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CD-USA and Bill Maher's Fishbowl.

"I feel flattered that they want to use 'Stand Up And Be Strong'," says Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner. "It lets me know how versatile the message of the song is. It's obviously a song about empowerment, and that's something that seems to be in short supply in this day and age."

Soul Asylum, the mythic garage rockers who helped shape the newly emerging contours of college radio alt-rock in the 80s before becoming Grammy-winning multi-platinum superstars in the 90s, celebrated their third decade with the long-awaited release of "The Silver Lining". Many of the tracks on "The Silver Lining" showcase the final recordings of original bassist Karl Mueller, who died at home of throat cancer on June 17, 2005. Mueller had been playing music with Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy since they'd formed the garage power trio Loud Fast Rules in 1981.

"Rolling Stone Magazine" praised "The Silver Lining" for its "... big, ragged pop-rock" while "Billboard Magazine" said, "... mixing pop melody and garage grit, 'The Silver Lining' is an old school alternative rock album full of oversized riffs and open-hearted hooks." "Harp Magazine" went on to say "Pirner and Co. can still pound out super catchy tunes" while "Time Out NY" raved "Stronger than anything the band's done since 1992's breakthrough 'Grave Dancer's Union', 'The Silver Lining' is loaded with hugely catchy songs, the kind that mainstream-rock radio exists for."

From teenage garage band to indie icons on the cover of the "Rolling Stone", from the 7th Street Entry to the Bill Clinton Inauguration, from Twin Tone to the majors, from their 1984 debut album "Say What You Will Clarence, Karl Sold The Truck" to winning 1993's Best Song Grammy "Runaway Train," Soul Asylum lives up to its reputation as a great American rock band continuing to find and illuminate "The Silver Lining".
