PodTech Announces Acquisition of Geek TV
Podcasting Pioneer Adds Video Blogging
MENLO PARK, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- PodTech, a social media company dedicated to podcasting and delivering Fresh Voices(TM) worldwide, formally announced the acquisition of Geek Entertainment TV(TM) (GETV). GETV is owned by Irina Slutsky and Eddie Codel, two renowned technology video blogging experts.
According to their website, GETV is an emerging global media company reporting from deep inside the bubble as it re-inflates. GETV covers buzzword compliant topics such as web 2.0, tagging, AJAX, social software and the bubble juice known as VCs.
"Geek Entertainment TV is a well-known site and does the best job at video blogging today. Irina and Eddie also know video content production and technology cold. I am thrilled to have them on board at PodTech," said John Furrier, CEO of PodTech. www.geekentertainment.tv
"We are psyched to be in the warm embrace of the PodTech family. It feels very natural," said Irina Slutsky.
"PodTech is an obvious partner to take our snark to the next level. They have the resources, vision and bubble juice to keep us fed and fired up. We're really excited to be working with Robert Scoble and John Furrier as we wander into uncharted startup waters," said Eddie Codel.
Some comments made by the blogging community on the announcement reflect how PodTech's focus on video is a powerful next step for social media:
"John Furrier didn't listen to various speculation to snap up ex- Rocketboom's Amanda Congdon for PodTech's video content, he found something better," said Katie Fehrenbacher of GigaOm.com, one of the industry's most respected blogs.
"What's rather exciting about this news: PodTech has totally blazed the trail in Silicon Valley business and technology podcasting, and built a rock solid content network. With GETV on board, they're not just making it clear that it's about video, but that there's the entertaining and humorous side of business," said Eric Rice, a well known blogger and expert in consumer generated media.
"Looks like PodTech is on the hunt to grab up all the best of the blogosphere. I'm looking forward to some awesome new GETV episodes now that have an actual budget," said blogger Scott Beal of Laughing Squid.
"What does this all mean for people who are still figuring out what the word 'vlog' even means? Get out your digital cameras and mobile phones with video abilities and start honing up your 'show' skills. This emerging technology isn't going away any time soon," said technology evangelist Robert Sanzalone of Pacific IT.
Specific details concerning the acquisition are not being disclosed at this time.
About Geek Entertainment TV
Eddie Codel is an Internet media producer who, prior to co-founding GETV last year, worked as a systems engineer during the first dot-com boom for companies that include Inktomi, FastForward Networks and Phoenix-Pop Productions. Eddie is a founding organizer of the Webzine conference series which began in 1998. Eddie's home on the web (since 1996!) is eddie.com.
Irina Slutsky is a mainstream journalist who transitioned onto the world of the Internet two years ago when she moved to the West coast to work at Red Herring v2.0. Bitten by the tech bug, Irina began reporting on location for GETV, though not necessarily the news. After finishing up at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, she worked as a crime and immigration reporter up and down the East Coast.
