SILVER SPRING, Md., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Discovery Channel garnered its first-ever Primetime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Made For Television Movie category today for its critically acclaimed retelling of the heroic efforts aboard United Airlines Flight 93 in THE FLIGHT THAT FOUGHT BACK. Discovery Channel received a total of seven nominations as the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Discovery Channel's DEADLIEST CATCH series, about the lives of Alaskan crab fishermen, led the network in Primetime Emmy nominations in the following categories: Outstanding Nonfiction Series; Outstanding Cinematography For Nonfiction Programming (multi-camera); and Outstanding Sound Mixing For Nonfiction Programming (single or multi-camera). The network's BEFORE THE DINOSAURS received nominations for Outstanding Animated Program (for programming one hour or more) and Outstanding Special Visual Effects For a Miniseries, Movie or Special. Discovery Channel's PERFECT DISASTER: SUPER TORNADO is nominated in the category of Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences present the Primetime Emmy Awards, long considered the highest honor in television. Winners will be announced at the Creative Artists Awards ceremony held on Saturday, August 19, in Los Angeles and the 58th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on NBC on Sunday, August 27.
